Oil Sands Producers Form Alliance to Accelerate Environmental Innovation

Twelve of Alberta's major oil sands producers have formed the Canadian Oil Sands Innovation Alliance to spur innovation by sharing their research and development in environmental areas.

The members of the alliance, while stating that they will remain competitors in all respects, will share information with one another regarding such matters as tailings management, water and wastewater technology, land reclamation and greenhouse gas mitigation, with a view to improving environmental performance in the oilsands.

The initial members of the alliance, representing more than 80% of oilsands production in Canada, are:

Devon Canada Corporation
Imperial Oil Nexen Inc.
Shell Canada Energy
Statoil Canada Ltd.

Total E&P Canada Ltd.

The alliance will also engage  research agencies, service companies, and other expertise in the oil sands.
