Yellowknife Student Programs

At Davis LLP, we are deeply committed to providing a first class education to our students. We seek to attract and train outstanding law students who will continue with the firm as associates and who will ultimately develop into partners.

Our Yellowknife office typically hires one articling student per year.

Program Description

The Yellowknife office and legal community are small, so our office environment and articling program are flexible and dynamic. We have excellent lawyers and an outstanding support staff and are involved in a wide range of exciting and diverse work.

Students receive exposure to all areas practiced by our lawyers. The student's principal supervises and monitors the student's work. While students in our office do not formally select a junior lawyer as a mentor, our office is small enough that the student has daily contact with each lawyer and all are available for support and guidance.

The Yellowknife articling program consists of two rotations. The first half is generally spent on corporate/commercial and real estate/lands files. The second half concentrates on litigation.

Yellowknife students must complete the requirements for admission to the Alberta bar, including participation in the CPLED program during their articling term. This 6-month program involves weekly assignments and monthly competency evaluations plus periodic skills sessions in Edmonton or Calgary. Students must also complete a Northwest Territories statutes examination.

The firm pays the student's salary while attending the course, the course fee, reimburses the student for travel to attend the course, and provides $750 towards living expenses.
