The Davis LLP Life Sciences Practice Group has extensive experience assisting clients ranging from individuals and start-ups to large corporations and governmental organizations.

Our clients include foreign and domestic entities in both the public and private sectors and encompass a wide range of life sciences areas including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices and methods.

Intellectual Property

We represent our clients on a range of IP matters in the Life Sciences sector, including having:

• Acted as patent counsel for the life sciences work of a major Hong Kong University, a Singapore biotech company, a Canadian NMR developer, provincial government bodies, and a range of Canadian and foreign corporations and individuals.
• Drafted and prosecuted patent applications for a range of subject matter including heart valve prostheses, novel chemical compounds, oil purification processes, nanoparticles for intracellular labelling, cell poration technologies, nucleic acid probes and markers, cell lines, and a range of other biotechnical and chemical subject matter.
• Prepared opinions on or advised on a range of infringement, validity and freedom to operate questions.
• Developed IP policies and procedures and have advised on patent filing strategies, IP ownership, strategic collaborations and R&D strategy, and IP due diligence.
• Provided advice to several major Canadian universities and pharmaceutical companies on IP issues.
• Litigated a wide variety of patent, trade-mark and other intellectual property disputes.
