Paul Lailey

Paul Lailey is engaged in a tax practice with emphasis on corporate taxation including the structuring of corporate mergers and acquisitions and tax planning for owner-managers and their families. He has a particular expertise in establishing tax-effective international structures for non-residents investing in Canada and Canadians investing abroad.
Paul has acted for a number of U.S., Japanese and other non-Canadian investors in structuring their investments in Canada taking into account Canadian and foreign tax considerations. He has also acted on structuring the sale of such investments. Paul has been involved in structuring a number of joint ventures involving First Nations and regularly provides tax advice to First Nations in the Yukon and British Columbia. Prior to joining Davis, Paul gained extensive taxation experience with the Department of Finance in the Tax Policy-Legislation Division. While with the department he was responsible for formulating tax policy and drafting income tax legislation in a number of areas including international taxation and corporate reorganizations. Paul is a frequent speaker at tax and estate planning conferences. He has presented papers for Insight, the Canadian Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (CAIFA) and at the 1998 and 2000 B.C. Tax Conferences. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Paul was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1984 and the British Columbia Bar in 1991.
