Obligations toward environmental stewardship come into full effect for manufacturers, distributors and retailers in B.C. lighting industry.In the October 5, 2012 issue of Lawyers Weekly, Carlos Mendes discusses the LightRecycle Program that came into full effect on October 1, 2012 in the province of British Columbia. To comply with the recycling regulation under the B.C. Environmental Management Act, manufacturers, distributors and retailers in the lighting industry have the option to facilitate the recycling of new lamps, ballasts and lighting fixtures through enrollment with Product Care, "a non-profit industry association that has developed an approved stewardship program in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment." In the article, Mendes explains the structure of Product Care's LightRecycle Program and also touches on the consequences of non-compliance with the recycling regulation. |
