Davis LLP established its strong connection to Asia and the Pacific Rim more than 60 years ago when members of our firm defended all Japanese-Canadians in two significant human rights-related legal cases just after WWII.  Then, in the 1950's, Japan looked to British Columbia as a critical source of raw materials it required for its industrial and economic recovery.  We assisted almost all Japanese sosha with their investments in the Western Canadian natural resource sector and acted for Japanese corporations with respect to their natural resource investments around the Pacific Rim.

Since that time, Davis has remained one of Canada's leading firms handling investments and transactions between Canada and the Asia-Pacific region. Our clients benefit from our expertise, experience and connections throughout the Asia-Pacific region. We help them understand the local legal and business environment and work with them to formulate strategies to achieve their goals.

Further, we regularly draw upon our firm's expertise in tax, business law, mining, forestry and other practice areas to give our clients comprehensive advice that considers all aspects of their enterprise or investment.

With the recent expansion of our Tokyo office, the firm has combined the accumulated knowledge and experience of its teams of Japanese and overseas legal professionals. In addition to core services in corporate law, our Tokyo office will apply strategic focus on four important areas: finance, corporate / M&A, infrastructure including PPP & PFI, and natural resources and energy development/transactions.
