Five New Partners at Davis LLP

Published: Wednesday, 11 January 2012

Davis LLP is pleased to announce that five gifted associates have been appointed to the firm’s partnership. Dean Dalke, Megan Filmer, Colin Lipsett, Richard Lord, and Justin Mooney became partners on January 1, 2012.

“Davis continues to grow because the partners have worked hard to cultivate a solid foundation,” says Robert Seidel, Q.C., Firm Managing Partner. “One of the ways we build that foundation is by securing the most exceptional talent at the associate level and supporting them while they develop into accomplished lawyers. Through their dedication and entrepreneurial spirit, these five lawyers exemplify the firm’s commitment to excellence and a client-centred approach. We are proud to welcome each of them to the partnership."

As the firm grows nationally and internationally, Davis is committed to providing the best client services in each region. In Vancouver, Dean and Richard will add strength to the litigation and real-estate teams, respectively; while Megan, Colin and Justin offer formidable skills to the firm’s corporate/commercial group across the country.

Dean also regularly advises clients on employment matters. He has appeared in the British Columbia Provincial Court, Supreme Court, and Court of Appeal. He represents clients in various alternative dispute-resolution forums. Megan acts regularly for borrowers and lenders (including Canadian chartered banks) in relation to complex-loan transactions, often including syndicated loans, cross-border financings, and customized-loan structures. She assists in structuring commercial and financing deals in the most efficient manner possible, thereby providing timely service to clients within a manageable budget.

Colin Lipsett (Edmonton) has a corporate/commercial practice with an emphasis on real estate, environmental and energy law. Colin's works in real property and environmental matters includes infrastructure projects, acquisitions, strategic acquisitions and divestitures, leases and remediation projects for clients including some of Canada's biggest resource companies. Colin's experience in real estate and environmental law includes advising conservation interests and organizations on environmental and conservation projects which are of considerable interest to Davis'clients in Canada's growing resource sector.

Richard Lord (Vancouver) is an important member of the firm's real-estate group based in Vancouver. He has extensive experience in acquisitions of major retail properties for a large Canadian retail chain and in financings and acquisitions for an active Canadian real-estate investment trust. Richard works on retail, office and industrial-leasing matters and has expertise in structuring complex real-estate acquisitions through limited partnerships and similar investment vehicles.

Justin Mooney (Toronto) practises corporate/commercial, real estate and banking law.
