Davis LLP is pleased to welcome Michael D.A. Ford, Q.C. as a partner in the firm's Employment and Labour Law Group.
Michael has a strong practice which combines a labour law background with an extensive knowledge of human resources and employment law. He acts for employers in collective bargaining, arbitrations, strikes and contract administration matters. He has advised employers on dealing with union organizational activity and provided counseling on various workplace matters, including employee discipline and termination, privacy issues, employment agreements, harassment/discrimination, drug testing polices, and sick leaves. He has also provided guidance to boards of directors and compensation committees on executive employment matters. Currently, he is involved in one of the largest employment class action lawsuits relating to employee benefits in the Alberta court system.
He has defended many employers in significant labour and employment cases involving provincially and federally-regulated workplaces, and routinely advises on Canada/US business transactions involving employment matters.
Michael develops sensible and workable solutions to complex workplace issues in a range of industries, including: energy, manufacturing, warehouse, communications, retail, financial, transportation and high-tech industries, as well as major public sector institutions in the health and education fields.
