The takeover bid for Calgary-based oil company Nexen by the China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) continues to be a hot-button issue in Canada.
Catherine Pawluch, Partner in the Vancouver office of Davis LLP, was interviewed by CTV News in a November 7, 2012 story as the window of opportunity for a formal national security review of the proposed deal closed without any action taken.
Pawluch eases the concerns of deal opponents in this regard, saying that even without a formal review, national security concerns can still be sufficiently addressed under the broad purview of the net benefit test.
