Court Date Set for Women Ski Jumpers' AppealPublished: Tuesday, 11 August 2009 In the latest chapter of the women ski jumpers' bid to be included in the 2010 Winter Games, the appeal date has been set. The B.C. Court of Appeal will hear the case Nov 12 - 13, 2009. In July, 2009, a B.C. judge ruled that although the women's exclusion from the 2010 Olympics is discriminatory, the International Organizing Committee (IOC) falls outside the scope of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and therefore, the international body does not have to comply with it. Shortly after the decision came down, Davis lawyers Ross Clark, Q.C., and Jeff Horswill appealed the outcome. The appeal will be heard three months before the games, scheduled for February 2010. |
