Biography
Ted Maduri is a partner in Davis LLP's Corporate/Commercial and Corporate Finance groups where he advises clients on a broad range of corporate matters from a broad range of industries, with a specific focus on IT and IP-based companies.
While he represents a number of public companies as well as not-for-profit organizations, Mr. Maduri's clients are generally owner-managed private companies and many have received awards for their level of growth such as being named one of Canada's Top 25 Up and Comers and as CDN's Fastest Rising Solutions Provider.
Prior to joining Davis, Mr. Maduri practised for a number of years at a prominent full-service Toronto law firm and most recently at a Toronto boutique business law firm. He has also been involved in establishing or managing a number of Toronto-area businesses during the course of his professional career. This practical experience gives Mr. Maduri a unique insight into his clients' relevant business/legal issues.
In addition to providing day-to-day commercial advice, Mr. Maduri regularly assists clients with the following:
- merger, acquisitions and sale transactions;
- equity or debt financings;
- establishing and structuring new ventures;
- establishing operations in Canada (or abroad);
- partnerships and joint ventures;
- reorganizations; and
- outsourcing transactions.
Mr. Maduri has also been involved on amalgamations, asset purchases, charity registrations and corporate governance matters for numerous not-for-profit organizations.
Directorships, Memberships & Professional Activities
Mr. Maduri is co-chair of the Toronto office's Associate Committee and is a member of the Firm's Sustainability Task Force. Mr. Maduri is a member of the Canadian Bar Association.
Publications & Seminars
Mr. Maduri has written numerous articles on various corporate/commercial issues including director and officer duties and liability, the Privacy Act and establishing not-for-profits and contest regulation. Mr. Maduri regularly presents to Boards and national organizations regarding Director Duties and Conducting Meetings. Also, Mr. Maduri routinely speaks to Toronto-area entrepreneurs on corporate law issues, such as methods of carrying on business and D&O liability. He also frequently speaks to Toronto area entrepreneurs about relevant business law issues and blogs on Davis LLP's blog: http://www.davis.ca/en/blog/Video-Game-Law.
Volunteer Work
Mr. Maduri is extremely involved in his community:
- doing pro bono work: such as registering Street Soccer Canada(aimed at raising awareness for homelessness) as a charitable organization and assisting the Black Youth Against Violence Coalition with various matters.
- organizing Ontario's entry in the World Football Cup of Lawyers (and spearheading the team's charity fundraising efforts).
- being on the organizing committee of the Bay Street Hoops Tournament (in its 15th year raising money for local charities, most recently, for the Special Olympics).
