Biography
Tamara Hunter is a member of the firm's Litigation Department and practises in the areas of administrative law, professional regulation law, freedom of information and privacy law and commercial litigation. She acts for a variety of professional regulatory bodies on matters involving registration, professional disciplinary proceedings and related litigation. She has conducted numerous hearings before professional disciplinary tribunals and has represented professional regulatory bodies before the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner, the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal, the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the British Columbia Court of Appeal.
Ms. Hunter has represented both private sector and public sector organizations before the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner and in related litigation.
Born in New Westminster, B.C., Ms. Hunter obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Simon Fraser University in 1988. She received the Chancellor's Entrance Scholarship and majored in both economics and business administration. Ms. Hunter then attended the University of British Columbia where she received her Law Degree in 1990.
Prior to joining Davis, Ms. Hunter was a Law Clerk to the Right Honourable Chief Justice Lamer of the Supreme Court of Canada.*
Professional Experience
- Ms. Hunter acts for a variety of professional associations on matters involving professional disciplinary proceedings and related litigation. She has conducted numerous hearings before professional disciplinary tribunals
- Ms. Hunter has acted for corporate and individual clients in a variety of commercial disputes. She has appeared as counsel at all court levels in British Columbia.
- Experienced in freedom of information and privacy law, Ms. Hunter has represented a number of clients (both corporate and institutional) on matters before the Information and Privacy Commissioner, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the British Columbia Court of Appeal and the Federal Court of Canada. Ms. Hunter has also spoken on the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and the provincial Personal Information Protection Act and issues surrounding the impact of these statutes on businesses.
- Ms. Hunter has assisted numerous organizations with privacy law compliance.
