Susan Friedman

Susan Friedman is a senior litigation lawyer in the Toronto office of Davis. She joined Davis as a partner in 1999.

She has successfully developed and maintained a broad corporate and commercial litigation practice before the courts and regulatory tribunals.

Susan has extensive experience as trial and appellate counsel in the areas of shareholder and partnership relations, commercial real estate leasing, banking, bankruptcy and insolvency, products liability, product distribution and franchising.

Among her leadership responsibilities at Davis, Susan chaired the Student Recruitment and Development Committee from 1999 to 2004.

She is a past member of the executive of the Litigation Section of the Canadian Bar Association (Ontario) and a past co-editor of the Section Newsletter.

She has published and presented papers in the areas of litigation practice, bankruptcy and franchising.

She is an associate member of the American Bar Association and a member of the ABA's Forum on Franchising, The Advocates Society, the American Bankruptcy Institute, INSOL International and the International Women's Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation.  In 2012 she was named a Legal Eagle by the Franchise Times and moderated the Canadian Franchise Association's morning plenary session at its 2012 Franchise Law Day.  In 2011 she co-chaired the OBA's Annual Franchise Law Conference.

Prior to entering the practice of law, Susan was a successful professional actress. She performed in dramatic and comedic roles in Canadian and U.S. stage, radio, television and motion picture productions.

She has maintained her interest in and support for the dramatic arts and currently, serves as a director of Opera Atelier, an opera company specializing in the production of opera, ballet and drama from the 17th and 18th centuries.
