John primarily advises Canadian and Japanese corporations, not-for-profit foundations, estate trustees and entrepreneurial businesses. On November 25, 2011, John received an award from the Emperor of Japan, for devoting much of his career to strengthening ties between Canada and Japan.
John primarily advises Canadian and Japanese corporations, not-for-profit foundations, estate trustees and entrepreneurial businesses. He has assisted many Japanese companies establish their businesses in Canada. John has spent much time in Japan, immersing himself in the country's culture and business practices and developing strong relationships with clients and counsel there. At his previous firm, John managed the Japanese practice for over twenty-five years. He continues to work with many Japanese companies, organizations and institutions, and encourages relationships between Canada and Japan. John has dedicated a significant portion of his time to establishing and assisting not-for-profit corporations and charitable foundations. Over the past four decades, he has acted as counsel, founder, director and officer for many corporations and foundations. He has also helped plan and implement several start-ups of entrepreneurial businesses, including two micro-breweries, a travel company and a medical bio-technology company.
John has been a director of many business corporations, including numerous subsidiaries of Japanese, American and European companies. In addition, he has spoken frequently in Canada, Japan and the United States on a wide variety of business, trade, investment, and governance issues.
In The NewsRecognitionOn November 25, 2011, John received a special award, conferred by the Emperor of Japan, for devoting much of his career to strengthening ties between Canada and Japan. The award is called “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon,” and was presented at a special conferment ceremony held at the official residence of Consul-General of Japan, Eiji Yamamoto, in Toronto. |
