Ingrid Otto's diverse employment and labour practice includes acting primarily for employers who need advice regarding labour relations, human rights, harassment and respectful workplace matters and privacy issues.
Ingrid works closely with her clients to gain a deep understanding of their business operations and their workforce, in order to provide customized strategies and practical advice that can help avoid disputes, minimize legal risk and reduce costs. Ingrid represents clients as an advocate before labour adjudicators, the British Columbia courts, provincial and federal human rights tribunals as well as various other employment tribunals. She regularly provides proactive advice on all matters related to the recruitment, hiring and termination of employees; strategic and cost-effective defences to employment related complaints; the creation and implementation of employment, consultant or contractor agreements; and collective agreement, employment standards and occupational health and safety compliance. BackgroundAfter receiving her Bachelors of Commerce degree, with distinction, from the University of Alberta in 1989, Ingrid worked as a human resources professional in the public and private sectors for many years, including as a Compensations Specialist and as an Industrial Relations Analyst. She obained a joint law and Masters of Business Administration degree from The University of British Columbia in 1995 and was called to the British Columbia bar in 1996.
