Biography
Daniel practices primarily in the areas of corporate/commercial law with an emphasis on debt financings, commercial transactions, renewable / alternative energy and First Nations law.
Daniel is a member of Davis LLP's national Climate Change Law Group and a contributor to the Group's blog and bulletins that deal with carbon finance, greenhouse gas regulations, emissions trading, and energy regulation. Daniel is also a member of Davis LLP's Aboriginal Law Practice Group, a contributor to the Group's blog and has provided legal advice to First Nations in British Columbia, and entities wishing to conduct business with First Nations.
Originally from Alberta, Daniel obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1995 from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Laws degree in 2007 from Queen's University. In the spring of 2005 Daniel studied International Business Law at Queen's International Study Centre, located at Herstmonceaux Castle in Southern England. In the spring of 2007 Daniel interned with the Department of Foreign Affairs at the Mission of Canada to the European Union in Brussels, Belgium, working in the trade department and covering environmental issues.
Before embarking on a legal career Daniel spent a year teaching ESL in Pusan, South Korea, spent many months backpacking around the world and was involved in a number of entrepreneurial ventures, including owning and operating a tour company and working as a computer consultant.
Professional Experience
- Assisted with the sale of Emission Performance Credits (EPCs) to a regulated emitter to permit compliance with Alberta's Climate Change Regulatory Regime
- Assisted a renewable energy company prepare materials for BC Hydro's Clean Power Call
- Conducted due diligence on the purchase and sale of renewable energy assets
- Negotiated with BC government ministries on behalf of a renewable energy company with regards to the province's Wind Policy
- Assisted with negotiations and drafting of joint-venture and other agreements related to the furtherance of renewable power projects
- Experience with all facets of secured financing transactions
- Experience drafting and negotiating share and asset purchase agreements, shareholder agreements, option agreements and other commercial contracts and documents
- Experience with incorporation and formation of start-up companies and dealing with issues arising with formation
