5 Year OMB Appointments? One of the recurring comments during the recent consultation on OMB Reform related to the length of OMB appointments. The three year tenure was seen as being too short, and providing lack of certainty to members. While we have not seen any official announcments, it appears that the government was listening. The Public Appointments Secretariat website is listing member Norman Jackson's appointment (which expired Oct. 6) as now expiring Oct. 5, 2011, a 5 year term! What is interesting is that Colin Hefferon, listed as having been appointed September 20, 2006 is only appointed for a 2 year term. So, unless there is a typo on the website, it looks like any decision on length of appointment was only made recently. |
