Oil sands operator faces Water Act charges
Alberta Environment has announced that it has laid charges against Statoil Canada Ltd under the Water Act.
The 19 separate charges relate to allegations by Alberta Environment that, during 2008 and 2009, Statoil failed to comply with its water licence by improperly diverting water from various water bodies for use in plant operations, and also provided false information to Alberta Environment. All charges related to Statoil's Leismer facility at Conklin.
Statoil's first court appearance is in Edmonton on April 6.
