Renewable content requirement for home heating oil to be scrapped

As we have previously reported, the federal Renewable Fuels Regulation requires that fuels sold in Canada contain a minimum amount of renewable content:  generally, 2% for diesel and home heating oil, and 5% for gasoline.

Federal Environment Minister Peter Kent announced earlier this week that he will introduce amendments to the Renewable Fuels Regulation which will permanently exempt home heating oil sold in Canada from the 2% renewables requirement.

In addition, he stated that there would be a six-month extension granted in the maritime provinces with respect to the 2% renewables requirement for diesel fuel.
