Discover the Davis Difference

A Collegial Workplace

At Davis, we foster and maintain a genuinely open, inclusive and team-oriented workplace where students are treated as valued professionals. Events like charity fundraisers, holiday parties, team sports and after work socializing are key to the atmosphere of the firm.

An Entrepreneurial Spirit

We pride ourselves on providing legal services in innovative new areas, and hire individuals who embody our spirit of client development and commitment to service of the highest quality.

As a student, you will receive the dedicated support and professional development you need to acquire the skills to flourish in our environment. This includes a strong mentorship program and weekly seminars.

Work-Life Balance

Of course you'll work hard, but we encourage our lawyers and students to maintain a balanced lifestyle and we respect their commitments to family and outside interests.

Davis attracts a variety of talented individuals who balance a law career with other activities like musical interests, sports, lecturing or writing. Our lawyers act on the boards of charities and organizations across the country, and actively commit their time to pro bono work firm-wide.

We are known for offering flexible work arrangements to reflect the individual circumstances facing our lawyers and staff.

Our Future

Davis has been around for more than 100 years, but we continue to grow and change. We are committed to expanding our presence in major centres and have recently expanded or renovated all of our offices.

Customized software, a new document management and email system, installation of VoIP phones and expanded webinar capabilities are some of the areas in which we've achieved substantial advancements firm-wide.

What Our People Say About Us

Our past and current students, and associates who have transitioned from our student program, provide their view on the Davis Difference:

"My first impression of Davis, during the summer student interview process, was that this is a truly collegial firm. The lawyers I met with were friendly and engaging, and I felt like I could be myself with them. More importantly, I could tell that the people here genuinely liked their co-workers and enjoyed one another's company. Now, after having worked at Davis as a summer student, articled student and associate, this first impression still holds true. This really is a place where people enjoy working together, and respect and support one another. It is a place where I have made many lasting friendships, and where I always feel supported. In a job that is often very challenging, these friendships and support makes a difference on a daily basis."

"For me, Davis has been a natural fit. The entrepreneurial spirit has allowed me to pursue my interest in the emerging field of climate change law. I've gained hands-on experience assisting clients with renewable energy projects and taken initiative to help redefine and develop our Climate Change Law Group."

"Both as a student and now as an associate at Davis I've been able to work with lawyers with a reputation for leadership and excellence while having opportunities to develop my own interests and practice style. Davis offers a team environment where I am still encouraged and supported to think innovatively and independently about law. Best of all, the collegiality at Davis is apparent every day, and means that working here is not only challenging, but fun as well."

"Before I started working at Davis I was a little bit nervous: I knew Davis had an excellent reputation for high quality legal work, but I wondered if I would have the same personalized experience that I might have in a smaller workplace. I soon found, however, that my nervousness was unfounded. From the very beginning, the collegial atmosphere in the Edmonton office has helped me to feel like a valued member of the Davis team. In addition, Davis has given me the support and guidance that I need as a new lawyer while, at the same time, allowing me the freedom to pursue the type of work that appeals to me."

"I was attracted to the firm for a number of reasons. I liked the fact that Davis is a Vancouver-based national firm with, as well as having some focus on Japan and the Pacific Rim. I also liked the flexibility that the summer and articling programs offered and the entrepreneurial spirit of the firm and openness to new ideas and opportunities."

"I had the privilege of working for two summers at Davis prior to completing my articles here. From the perspective of many years of experience in other professions, I have to say that I was not only impressed with the quality of my learning, but also with Davis' culture of collegiality and team work. I call it "the Davis Advantage."
