On May 17, 2007, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority ("TSSA") released its replacement for the Environmental Management Protocol, referred to as "GA1/99" dated October 2001. The Protocol deals with spills and clean-ups at operating fuel handling sites in Ontario. The link to the new Protocol can be found here.

According to the TSSA, the revised Protocol is consistent with the information contained in the 2001 edition, provides updated site condition standards consistent with the Ministry of Environment's (MOE's) Ontario Regulation 153/04 (Records of Site Condition) and the values contained in the MOE document entitled "Soil, Ground Water and Sediment Standards for Use Under Part XV.1 of the Environmental Protection Act".

The Protocol applies only to operations governed by the Technical Standards and Safety Act, associated Regulations (O. Reg. 213/01 and 217/01), the Liquid Fuels Handling Code and the Fuel Oil Code.
