The Province announced on August 9th that it is proposing to require the collection of methane produced at landfill sites for use as a renewable energy. The government intends to implement this proposal by way of amendment to an existing regulation that will make it mandatory for new, expanding and existing operating landfills larger than 1.5 million cubic metres to install a system to capture methane. The proposal has been posted to the Environmental Registry for a 90-day comment period.
